Our Guaranteed Inheritance in Christ

In Ephesians 1:11-14, Paul speaks of an inheritance that cannot be lost, diminished, or taken away. The believer’s future does not rest upon changing circumstances or personal strength. It rests upon the sovereign purpose of the Father, the saving work of the Son, and the sealing presence of the Holy Spirit.

This inheritance is found only in Christ. Jesus is the rightful Son and heir of all things, yet He died and rose to bring guilty sinners into God’s family. Those who hear the word of truth and believe in Him are forgiven, adopted, and sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s presence is God’s pledge that He will complete the salvation He began.

Because our future is secure, we can bring our fears under God’s sovereign purpose, hold earthly possessions with an open hand, rest upon Christ rather than religious performance, and take honest steps of repentance through the Spirit’s power.
