Evidence of New Life
In 1 John 2:1-6, John gives a clear answer to the question, “What is the evidence of new life in Christ?” Many may claim the name Christian, but Scripture teaches that true knowledge of Christ produces visible fruit. Those who know Him keep His commandments, grow in love for God, and walk in the same way Jesus walked.
This obedience is not legalism. Christians do not obey Christ in order to earn salvation. We obey because we have been loved, forgiven, and transformed by grace. John also reminds us that this does not mean sinless perfection. When we do sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
The sermon calls every hearer to examine whether they merely know about Jesus or truly know Him. The gospel offers hope for sinners: Christ bore the wrath we deserved, died in our place, and calls us to repent and believe. We invite you to gather with Refuge Church Centralia as we continue to open God’s Word together.
