What We Believe
At Refuge Church, what we believe shapes who we are, how we live, and why we gather - and everything we are and everything we do flows from this truth:
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge…” — Psalm 18:2
Our convictions are grounded in the Bible - God’s inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word-and we joyfully affirm the historic Christian faith, in unity with the Baptist Faith & Message (2000).
We believe the truth of God’s Word is not just for knowing, but for living - with the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the center of all we do.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is our final authority in all matters of belief and practice. Through Scripture, God speaks with complete truth and power, revealing Himself and His plan of redemption.
Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 19:7–11; Matthew 4:4
God
We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is fully and equally God - one in essence, distinct in person, perfect in holiness, justice, wisdom, and love.
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5–6; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. Born of the virgin Mary, He lived a sinless life, died in our place as the perfect sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the dead, and is now exalted at the right hand of the Father. He will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
Scripture: John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:5–11; Colossians 1:15–20; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ, convicts the world of sin, regenerates sinners, and dwells in believers. He empowers, guides, and equips the church for faithful witness and holy living.
Scripture: John 14:16–17, 26; John 16:8–14; Romans 8:9–11; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22–23
Humanity
We believe all people are created in God’s image and made for His glory. Because of sin, every person is separated from God, under His just judgment, and unable to save themselves. Our greatest need is to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.
Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 8:3–8; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1–3
Salvation
We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. God graciously calls, regenerates, justifies, adopts, and sanctifies all who repent and believe the Gospel. Salvation is wholly the work of God from beginning to end, and those He saves He will keep to the end.
Scripture: Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 8:28–30; Titus 3:4–7; John 10:27–30; Philippians 1:6
The Church
We believe the church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers in every place and time. A local church is an assembly of baptized believers who covenant together to worship God, grow in Christ, make disciples, and live out the Gospel in the world. Christ is the head of the church, and His Word governs it.
Scripture: Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:42–47; Ephesians 1:22–23; Ephesians 4:11–16; Colossians 1:18
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-a public testimony of faith and a picture of union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
We believe the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic meal, instituted by Christ, in which baptized believers remember His death, proclaim His return, and renew their commitment to Him.
Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20; Romans 6:3–4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Acts 2:41
The Christian Life
We believe God calls His people to love Him supremely, love others sacrificially, and live for His glory in every area of life. As disciples, we pursue holiness, walk in obedience to God’s Word, and make disciples of all nations.
Scripture: Matthew 22:37–40; Matthew 28:18–20; Romans 12:1–2; Galatians 5:13–26; 1 Peter 1:14–16
Last Things
We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to bring His kingdom in full. God will raise the dead, judge all people with perfect justice, and make all things new. Those who are in Christ will enjoy eternal life in His presence; those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God.
Scripture: Matthew 24:29–31; John 5:28–29; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11–15; Revelation 21:1–5
